I have heard small blankets such as this one referred to as “taggies,” “tabbies,” or “lovies.”  Because of its small size (12×18 inches) this blanket is perfect for your baby to safely snuggle with and your toddler to carry (not drag) around. My three-year-old niece and one-year-old nephew both have a special blanket which helps them to fall asleep at night. My son, Josiah, has never been attached to a blanket in a comfort sort of way. However, he loves to play peek-a-boo with these little blankies which I have made for him…and that is why I call it a Peek-a-Boo Blankie! At first my husband or I would toss the blankie over his face and say “Where’s Josiah?” He would gleefully pull it off to reveal himself. We’d do it over and over and over again. And he’d giggle and giggle and giggle. At fifteen months he still loves to play, but now he initiates it himself by lifting it to cover his face (at least partially) and then pulling it down. So fun! SO CUTE!

It is covered with 18 tags in a variety of widths, designs, colors, and textures to grab and touch and rub. I don’t know what it is about tags, but it seems babies are drawn to them. I guess it is just something they can touch and manipulate between their fingers as a part of discovering the world. One of the tags doubles as a pacifier holder. I figure this way you have a double-threat soothing tool in one fell swoop. It can also be used to attach the blankie to the car seat, stroller, shopping cart…or whatever else you can think to wrap it around.
