A couple hundred bucks and 4 days later, our computer is back from the Geek Squad and functioning again. Halleluyah. But there are still several files that need to be re-arranged and put in the appropriate places…and for some reason our bookmarks toolbar isn’t working on the internet browser. We keep resetting them only to have them disappear again. If it isn’t one thing…

It is crazy how dependent we are on this little machine for our daily lives (for blogging and checking email, etsy, and pinterest, of course…but also for checking the weather forecast and looking up phone numbers, addresses, and product reviews…we don’t have TV service or keep a phone book around here.) It has been a bit eye-opening to me how much a computer problem can set us back.

In the scheme of things, this was no tragedy. But I still wanted to whine a bit. You see, this post WAS already written, waiting only for my drawings to be scanned in order to be ready to publish. And now it is gone (I guess it was still sitting unsaved and open on the desktop when the computer crashed). I really hate re-writing. Writing something the first time is struggle enough. Writing it again can be maddening. If this were more of an essay style post, I would just forget it. But since it is really just a bunch of cute pictures of my kiddos and brief explanations, I am willing.

But here is the sunny-side: do you remember when email was the newest coolest thing? It seemed every other email you wrote had to be re-written because your connection would time out or something would freeze after you hit send (or even more frustrating: after you hit save)…Ya, well, somewhere along the line that got fixed. And we never even really realized it. So today, I am thankful that my computer ran fine for over a year before it crashed…and that I haven’t had to re-write an email in who knows how long!

But back to the cute kiddos, and their blankies:

Selah Mae now has a personalized Selah blanket just like the one I made for Josiah when he was itty bitty.Before Josiah was born, I nested with a colored pencil and a notebook. Since we didn’t find out if we were having a boy or a girl, I had a plan for both options. This one if he was a boy (which I was pretty sure he was):And this one if he somehow came out a girl:(You’ll notice that my plan included lots of greens and browns…fabrics I already had that just needed to be supplemented by blue or pink). A lot of time and thought went into each blanket, and every square means something. I already shared about Josiah’s blanket in this post, but I wanted to share again…because I have better pictures now, and also because it is even better alongside Selah’s.

Josiah’s blanket has a 3 because when he was born our family grew from a family of 2 to a family of 3:

The 2 was chosen because 2 Kings 22:2 says, ” And he (King Josiah) did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.” Pretty cool guy my Josiah was named after The 8 is significant because Josiah was born in 2008, King Josiah (from the Bible passage above) also became King when he was 8 years old…a fact I think is pretty darn cool. Of course, the J is for Josiah. JGK are his initials. Josiah’s blanket also had an A for Alisha (my name) and a R for Rodney (daddy’s name). D is for Dog.W is for Whale.I had a hard time finding an animal for the tall square on Josiah’s blanket (It couldn’t be a giraffe, because the G was already taken for his middle initial). I decided to use C for Camel, because Josiah actually rode on a camel with me (he was in the womb) on my study trip to Israel.

Josiah thinks it is pretty cool to spell his name, and I appreciate the hidden educational value in these blankets So now Selah, has a blanket to match!Where Josiah’s blanket has a 3, hers has a 4…because her arrival made us a family of 4.The other numbers on her blanket are 5 and 9. She was born on May 9th (5/9). It also happens that Psalm 59, Psalm 49, and Psalm 54 (every two number combination that can be formed when reading from left to right on her blanket) are all Psalms in which the word Selah appears (It is a Hebrew musical term).Of course, S is for Selah. SMK are her initials (you can only see part of the M in any of these pictures, but it is there: next to the S.)B is for Bird.G is for Giraffe.and L is for Lion.K is the only letter that is repeated between the blankets. We could have repeated the A and R for my husband’s and my first initials as we did on Selah’s blanket…but instead we decided to use an X and an O: for hugs and kisses.2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9 have now been used…if we have another baby, I hope 1, 6, and 7 are significant numbers As for letters, there are more options: E, F, H, I, N, P, Q, S, T, U, V, W, Y, and Z are all still available with no repeats other than the K.
