Our New Master Bedroom
March 6, 2012 in Making our House a Home
This post has been featured

It’s been a long time coming, this room…and this post. I have already told you about this construction project,
this dresser,
But let’s back up a bit and take this from the beginning, shall we?
This is what this room looked like when we moved into our home 3.5 years ago:
I’d say it was actually about the nicest room in the house…but was sort of awkwardly long and narrow:
At first this room was our guest bedroom and the narrow nook was my sewing space. But then we decided this room could serve us better. We decided to change it up so that this side of the room was a nice, big walk-in closet (You can see lots more pictures and read about the details of this endeavor here).
While we had the room stripped for that construction project, I convinced the hubby that we also needed to raise the ledge that went around the perimeter of the room.
As I told you in this post, I am really not a fan of the low ledge that you often find in garden level rooms…but I DO love the look of board and batten. So we raised the ledge, added some molding, and painted it white.
-
It sounds simple when stated in just a few sentences. In reality, it was quite a project.
But I do love it SO MUCH more. At almost eye level, it makes a perfect leaning ledge…

So this is our new Master Bedroom:
With our new walk-in closet.
And a nice big king-size bed:
I shared the progression of the closet side of this room a few weeks ago. Here is a quick composite outlining the major stages the bed side of the room has gone through:
(The above composite skips over the in-between period in which the room was done enough to live in, but still under construction.) Here are a few snapshots of that time period, just so you know how far we’ve come.
It’s a bit scary.
But we made it work.
And just in case you haven’t had enough with the pictures yet, here are some more!
