Our Laundry Nook
May 16, 2012 in Making our House a Home
Our 1970s home does not have a laundry room….just this “nook” in the den.
I had been oogling over some other blogger’s laundry room makeovers and decided I might as well make the best of what I’ve got…its’ just a nook, but it could be a cuter nook:)
My budget for this project was $0…and I am proud to say I was able to stick to it:) Using drywall leftover from our bathroom renovation, we were able to frame in and add a ceiling and a new wall to the right of the washer. Here it is before:
–
…and now after:
-
(The texture on the walls was accomplished using wadded up plastic sacks:)
For the decor, we just hung some single socks from cloths pins and used some scrap wood from our bed project to make this sign…
…and this shelf:
I wanted a sort of ransom note look for the sign, so I used a bunch of mismatched letter stickers for the lettering:
I painted over the stickers…
…and when I removed them, it looked like this:
After a bit of touch-up paint and some glazing, it looked like this:
So there you have it…a simple, cheap laundry nook makeover.
BEFORE:
and AFTER:
(P.S. This is my home in Colorado, not the one we just moved to in Nebraska…for the next few weeks I’ll be sharing pictures from all of these projects we finished just before moving…THEN I’ll switch gears to sharing our before pictures and plans for the new home.)

What a great make-over. Wouldn’t it have been awesome to have had it that way the whole time you were there??

Love the sign. It made me grin. Thanks for sharing this.
What a clever idea for sure. We call ours orphans. Guess they are universal so your idea should be very well received.
Thanks for sharing this week on BeColorful.

I think you did a great job in fixin’ up your laundry nook!! Love the little mini sock clothes line!!
I grew up in NE…(North Platte)…but was transplanted to SC over 30 years ago. I miss my old hometown.
So impressive – super cute and a fantastic price tag! Thanks for linking to Craftastic Monday at Sew Can Do:)
just think, you spent all that time “practicing” for when you moved.
Now you know what you want, and how to get that look on a tight budget!
love the sign!

Such great inspiration!! Since I am now on a part-time-job-and-grad-school budget, I like the price tag and now am trying to think of how I can revamp my laundry room as it has been driving me nuts for 3 years now…I am definitely going to have to work in the sock idea some how – that was brilliant!
