A Bucket List of Sorts
June 16, 2010 in Mommy Musings
A few weeks ago, the hubby and I (mostly me) put together our summer “to-do” list. You know… finish the bathroom remodel, do some landscaping in the yard, fix up my new sewing desk, build new stairs to the deck, make cushions for the patio furniture, write 3 chapters of my thesis, lose the rest of the baby weight….
A few days ago, Kimba, at A Soft Place to Land, posted her family’s summer “to do “list.
But it wasn’t like ours.
It had things on it like dig a hole, catch fireflies, and make bubbles.
How fun! And what a great idea. (Kimba said she got the idea from Meg, at Whatever…so thanks for the great idea, Meg!)
We need to spend more time being intentional about not being so intentional all the time. I know that doesn’t really make sense…but maybe you’re smelling what I am stepping in? I thought a list like this would help us do just that.
Since our summer doesn’t have an official end date (I am a student, but will be working on my thesis this fall semester…just as I’ll be doing all summer long), I decided that instead of a Summer “to do” list, we should have One-Year-Old Bucket List. So here it is. These are all the fun things we plan on doing before Josiah turns two:
You may notice that Josiah added a few mystery activities to the list. I don’t know what those will be….but I am excited to find out!
Disclaimer: I realized after putting this together that I think the reason a Bucket List is called a Bucket List is because it is all the things you want to do before you “Kick the Bucket.” That is kind of morbid in the context of my one-year-old. Please know that I have no intention of him kicking the bucket on his second birthday. My mom says that once you have a Master’s degree you have the privilege of making up new words. I don’t have my Masters yet, but I think I am close enough to earn the privilege of amending the meaning of an old term. As of today, the term “Bucket List” means “any list of things the composer wishes to accomplish in a given period of time: this period of time may refer to one’s entire lifespan or to the several months leading up to November 16th, 2010, namely, Josiah’s second birthday.”

Great list! Sounds like you’re going to have tons of fun in the next few months. I love it!
And I love that you let your sweet boy add his own personal touch. Thanks for sharing!
